Question:What is the dynamo effect?

The Dynamo Effect is the generation of electricity in a wire by the movement of the wire and a magnet relative to one another.

The dynamo effect turns kinetic energy into electrical energy.

Higher level only: It is the change of the size of the magnetic field across the coil of wire that causes the generation of electricity. The magnetic field can be changed by either moving the magnet or the coil or by causing the strength of a magnet to be increased (which is only possible for electromagnets).

A dynamo is another name for a generator.

ADVANCED NOT IN EXAM:The dynamo effect is another name for electromagnetic induction.
