Question:Name three sources of energy used on Earth that do not originate from the energy of the Sun?

Nuclear energy, Geothermal Energy and Tidal energy have nothing to do with the Sun.

Geothermal Energy is heat that is extracted from beneath the surface of the Earth.

Under the ground the Earth is far hotter than on the surface, much of this heat comes from radioactivity of rocks within the Earth.

Tidal energy is caused by the Moon's gravitational pull on the oceans. Students often confuse Tidal energy with Wave energy becasue both happen at the same time at the beach, but they are completely separate phenomena.

Nuclear Energy comes from the radioactivity of some isotopes.See module P2e.
