Question: What units are Heat and other types of energy measured in?
Energy is measured in Joules. Symbol for the unit Joules is J.
If a physical quantity is measured in Joules then it must be a type of energy even if you do not know what the name means. Remember 5 Joules of bananapurpleness = 5J of energy! .
It is also quite likely that you will encounter the unit kJ.
kJ stands for kilo Joules.
1 kJ = 1000 Joules.
To convert kJ to Joules you must multiply the number in kJ by 1000.
To convert Joules to kJ you must divide the number of Joules by 1000.
See Appendix 2 for more examples of converting units.
